Nova Deluxe High Tea at the Movies

I found out recently that my favourite cinema, Nova in Carlton, has started doing High Tea in their deluxe cinema. With the weather being as wet and cold as it's been lately, I thought it would be a perfect afternoon out for my Mum and I over the weekend.
Excuse the weird photo - for some reason I apparently get all squinty with the flash! As we entered the cinema we were greeted and offered a drink. There was a choice between Pimms, wine, iced tea or tea and both Mum and I chose the Pimms which was delicious! Our drinks and a bottle of water each were delivered to our comfy armchair type seats.
Not long after our food was delivered in a cute little cardboard tray. There was a really nice range of different treats - a mix of both sweet and savoury. The savoury options offered up were Smoked Salmon, Caper Mayonnaise and Watercress salad on rye which was very light and lovely and a little baguette with chicken and potato which was very nice. My favourites were the sweet treats though - three little tarts, a chocolate chip cookie and a macaron. While the chocolate chip cookie was a little average and on the overcooked side, the tarts (lemon meringue, chocolate mousse and strawberry) were wonderful with light pastry and the macaron was surprisingly good.
Not long before the movie started we were offered a larger version of the tarts - Mum and I both chose the lemon meringue which was just as good as the smaller version - I loved how the meringue was piped onto half of the tart, how cute is it?!
I thought that this High Tea was very well priced at $39 per person, especially since it includes your movie ticket. They seem to show a different movie each weekend (the High Tea only runs on Saturday and Sunday). We saw Hysteria which I really loved - it's a very light, funny period movie which is about a very....interesting event in history - the invention of the vibrator.

High Tea at the Movies is held every Saturday and Sunday and I'd recommend you book online in advance. We booked Sunday morning and the only seats left were in the front row, which was fine for us but I always prefer to sit further back from the screen. The cinema opens at 3.00pm so you have time to sit, relax and enjoy your drink and treats - the movie then begins at 3.30pm sharp.

Mum and I both really enjoyed our High Tea experience at the movies and would definitely go again. It was a great way to spend our Sunday afternoon, and we liked the different twist on High Tea.

  1. What a fantastic idea! I wish a cinema would do that here. And $39 including a ticket is fabulous value. Very cute piping idea too ;)

    1. It is a great idea - a lighter & cheaper option than some of the Gold class type options at cinemas.
