LuxBites, Melbourne

When I caught up with my friend Sam yesterday, she told me about how she'd been watching the latest season of Masterchef and about a particularly amazing cake that was featured on an episode of the show called The Lolly Bag. We decided that we just had to try and find the shop, and to see if they had any of the Lolly Bag Cake left.
We entered the store to see that quite a few other people had had the same idea as us - the tables were all full and there was a fairly big line. As we got closer to the front of the line, we passed jars full of salted caramel and vanilla caramel, bags of bourbon and bacon popcorn and then past the amazing cakes and macarons.
Unfortunately there weren't any pieces of the Lolly Bag cake left but there were still plenty of others to choose from. I decided to try the Meringue Monster and my friend went for the Endless Love.
The Meringue Monster was described as Green tea sponge, pistachio, watermelon yoghurt, sour strawberry mousse, meringue. While it looked and tasted amazing, I found that it was bordering on too sweet for my tastes, due to the meringue coating. My favourite part was the strawberry mousse and watermelon yoghurt interior.
The Endless Love that my friend chose is a dessert inspired by Pierre Herme's famous Ispahan. It's described as Lychee Ganache, rose cream, lychee, fresh raspberries (and of course the macaron). It looked gorgeous and Sam said that she'd never tasted anything like it, it was amazing.
We both decided to get a couple of macarons each to try. I got a Salted Caramel and a Peanut Butter and Jelly, both very strong flavours. The Salted Caramel was very good but not the best I've tried, whereas the Peanut Butter and Jelly was really nice. It literally tasted like I was eating a Peanut Butter and Jelly sandwich - the flavours were very rich and strong.
My friend decided on some unusual flavours, Ribena Lemonade which apparently didn't have much flavour and she wasn't that impressed by, and the Passionfruit and Kaffir Lime which was very light and tropical. I even got a taste of this one, and I agree with Sam, the two flavours made for the perfect combination.
